A labor rights activist Ms. Do Thi Minh Hanh has organized a workers’ strike against the labor exploitation and insults of female workers in a shoe factory in January 2010. She was arrested in February 2010 and later sentenced to seven years imprisonment on the charge of “disrupting security” according to §89 of Vietnamese Criminal Code.

Her mother, Mrs. Tran Thi Ngoc Minh, fled out of Vietnam in 2012 to raise her cry for help to the international community. In Berlin Mrs. Tran Thi Ngoc Minh expressed her very concern about the health of her daughter who is severely ill due to torture and lack of medical treatment. Since her daughter is held in prison in Hanoi – which is 1,700 km away from her hometown – her family can’t visit Mrs. Do Thi Minh Hanh regularly and provide her with food and medicine.

During her time in Berlin Mrs. Tran Thi Ngoc Minh met the Committee on Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid of the German Bundestag (Pic 1), and two members of the committee who have taken sponsorship for her daughter: the chairman Michael Brand (Pic 2) and Sabine Baetzling-Lichtenthaeler (Pic 3), and also the Federal Government Commissioner for Human Rights Policy and Humanitarian Aid, Mr. Christoh Straesser (Pic 4). Subsequently a member of the German Bundestag, Mr. Frank Heinrich visited her daughter Do Thi Minh Hanh in Thanh Xuan Prison in Hanoi, Vietnam.
