The German Federal President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier (R), and the Executive Director of veto! Human Rights Defenders’ Network, Vu Quoc Dung (2nd-R), presented the certificate of the Human Rights Price 2017 of the German Association of Judges (GAJ) awarded to the imprisoned Vietnamese lawyer Nguyen Van Dai. The president’s wife, Elke Büdenbender (L), and the Vice President of the GAJ, Joachim Lüblingshoff (2nd-L) assisted the presentation on April 5, 2017, in Bellevue Palace. On April 5, 2017, the German Federal President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and his wife, Elke Büdenbender, received Mr. Vu Quoc Dung in Bellevue Palace in Berlin. Some hours before Mr. Dung has accepted the Human Rights Price 2017 of the German Association of Judges on behalf of the imprisoned Vietnamese lawyer Nguyen Van Dai. The German President expressed his “extreme” regret that the wife of lawyer Dai was banned on traveling to Germany to receive the price on behalf of her husband. He called Vietnam to more respect on human rights and rule of law. During the audience the German President and Mrs. Elke Büdenbender asked Mr. Dung on the prison conditions of lawyer Dai and the situation of his wife after the travel ban to Germany.
